Welcome to Hawk Search Limited. We are a UK-based Executive Search firm working with companies that sell pricing, data, news, software and technology products to investment banks, investment managers, hedge funds and wealth managers. We help find analysts, reporters, sales, marketing, product and client service staff for our clients.

We work in close collaboration with our clients and aim to find the right person for the job. Our approach is structured and our search cycle includes business development, understanding the client brief, market research, presentation of long list, agreement of candidate short list, candidate approaches, managing interview logistics and, finally, contract negotiation.

BIDS FOR PEARSON'S INTERACTIVE DATA

A Telegraph report over the weekend claims Pearson may extend its 12th February 2010 deadline for bids for its Interactive Data (IDC) business in order to accommodate interest from up to 12 parties.

The article says Thomson Reuters is expected to make the most competitive bid from a strategic buyer, ahead of McGraw Hill and Bloomberg, whose appetite for the Pearson's stake in IDC is not as strong.

The Telegraph states that private equity firms including KKR, Blackstone, Bain Capital, TPG and Hellman & Friedman are all thought to be interested in putting in first round bids.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER - M&A - BASED LONDON

Our client is a global corporation with offices in Europe, America and Asia. They sell data and software solutions across debt capital markets, equity capital markets, loan syndication and M&A. Their clients are investment banks. We are working with their M&A business division.

We seek an M&A Business Development Manager. This is a commercial role where you will identify, evaluate and promote new product opportunities across our client's M&A business division. You will regularly meet with clients and prospects to understand their current and future plans and ensure that products adapt in line with customer demands. You will bring this intelligence into the oprganisation in order to devise strategies for our client's revenue growth. You will work closely with sales teams to help them sell new products and understand market trends. You will also collaborate closely with product teams in order to adapt current products or build new solutions.

You will have an in-depth knowledge of M&A data products as well as very good customer facing skills. You will have excellent project management skills as well as strong commercial awareness.

NEWS FROM MARKIT, THOMSON REUTERS AND BLOOMBERG THIS WEEK

A press release on Markit's web site this week announced that General Atlantic has agreed to make a substantial equity investment in Markit. An FT article stated that "General Atlantic is taking a $250m stake in Markit in what amounts to a bet by one of the industry's most experienced investors that the best future growth lies in post-trade services and data rather than in exchanges and trading platforms." 

At The World Economic Forum in Davos this week, Thomson Reuters' CEO, Tom Glocer, said the firm saw a "marked uptick" in its sales as it progressed through the end of 2009. We read this in a Reuters Davos Update which also said the firm was in a strong position to make acquisitions and to invest in its businesses.

Also, at Davos this week, Bloomberg said their growth will be organic and they do not intend to bid for Interactive Data Corporation. For more Bloomberg opinion on this, click here.

SALES MANAGER - COMMODITIES PRICING, NEWS AND RESEARCH - BASED LONDON

Our client is a global corporation that sells pricing, news and research for commodities markets. Their products are used by investment banks, investment managers and corporations in order to make trading decisions (front-office) as well as to confirm post-trade actions (middle- and back-office). Their markets include coal, freight, gas, metals, oil, power and transportation. The products are sold direct via feeds or through third party firms such as Thomson Reuters and Bloomberg.

We seek a Sales Manager to manage a team and to have a personal sales quota. You will work with the team to sell the solutions on a site license basis across all areas of an organisation. You will also personally manage a group of major accounts.

You will have a background of selling market data products to financial firms. You will manage a UK sales team and therefore sales management experience is essential. Ideally you will have experience of commodities products. You will understand how investment banks are structured and will be selling direct to the business and end users.

MARKETING MANAGER - TECHNOLOGY & INFORMATION - BASED LONDON

Our client is a global corporation that sells data, online information and software solutions to many business sectors. Their products allow end users to carry out simple research tasks right through to sophisticated manipulation of data and charting.

We seek a Marketing Manager to manage a small marketing team across one business segment. This role reports to a regional Marketing Director. You will plan and execute marketing strategies in line with the company's business goals and you will manage campaigns across multiple products. You will devise strategies to support sales campaigns to attract new customers. You will also devise tactical marketing plans to add value to existing paying subscribers.

You will have excellent B2B marketing experience in any industry and you will have worked across all elements of the marketing mix. You will manage a small team and will be able to delegate work as well as lead by example. Management experience is essential in order to be considered for this role. You will also be hands on and directly manage your own projects.

Our client is a global corporation that sells customised primary research solutions to investment managers, hedge funds and private equity firms. Their sector-specific research is used by Chief Investment Officers, Heads of Research and Portfolio Managers to gather market intelligence that is relevant to their investments. This allows them to make decisions about their portfolios. It also means that these investment firms can provide unique market insight to their investors.

We seek sales executives with institutional equity research sales experience to bring on board new clients and build their usage of the service. You will have excellent buy-side contacts as well as good closing skills. We are looking for new business sales skills as well as strong relationship management skills. The role will be based in our client's London office.

PEARSON SAYS IDC CONSIDERING SALE

The Daily Telegraph reports this morning that Pearson has made a statement to the board saying that Interactive Data Corporation's board is "currently undertaking a preliminary review of strategic alternatives for the company". It issued the statement in response to a report in the Financial Times that said IDC had approached potential buyers.

The Telegraph article states that New York-listed IDC, which provides prices for fixed income and illiquid securities for portfolio managers, has a market value of around $2.4bn (£1.5bn), valuing Pearson's 61pc stake at about $1.5bn. The statement added that the companies can give "no assurance on the potential outcome or timing of this review process and do not intend to make any further statements unless and until it becomes appropriate to do so".

The Telegraph adds that buyers could include Bloomberg, McGraw-Hill and Thomson Reuters, although any such combinations could face competition hurdles, according to the FT report.

We seek a Sales Executive to increase revenues of corporate governance solutions to asset managers, pension funds and custodian banks. You will sell to dedicated corporate governance teams at tier one buy-side firms. You will have a new business sales target as well as a renewal target.

We are interested to speak with candidates who have sales experience in any one of these fields of expertise working for:

Custody Firms: you will have an excellent network of contacts amongst asset managers and pension funds.

Cash Equity Sales: you will be a pro-active sales hunter with good buy-side contacts.

Broker/Dealers: you will be a pro-active sales hunter.

Proxy Solicitors: you will have excellent domain expertise.

The basic salary is commensurate with experience and there is a competitive commission plan in place.
